Oh No Oh My - “Walk in the Park”
Formally Oh No! Oh My! (they belong to a generation of exclamation (!) point bands), this band has spent the last two full years touring and is due out with a new album in 2011.
Similar to The Like, Oh No Oh My won their way into my heart by tugging at indie acoustics with smirky lyrics. This song begins sweetly enough with an acoustic guitar, some quiet clapping and harmonies. Nice day for a walk in the park / Nice day for a drive through the city. The chorus is half comprised of onomatopoeias! The song is so cute! So Sweet! So lovable! Maybe I’ll put it on a mix CD!
I’m bad at setting up twists but as you can clearly tell, the lyrics switch gears. During the third refrain, the carefree meaning of the song changes: Nice day for a walk in the dark. Nice day for a drive-by shooting. And in comes that adorable chorus. But instead of being puzzled, you feel quite amused. Oh No Oh My toys with lyrics - it’s almost as if to see if anyone is really listening to the words they’re singing.
