A cartoon-themed ice hotel has opened in Finland. The SnowCastle of Kemi by the Gulf of Bothnia is the biggest snow fort in the world and is rebuilt each winter. Each year the snowy construction includes a chapel, a restaurant and a hotel, but those are the only elements that remain the same. The size, shape and decoration of the structure changes annually; as does the theme, which this year is cartoons. Throughout the complex there are intricate carvings and ice sculptures featuring some of the best loved animated characters. Visitors enter through a leering skull gate, elsewhere The Simpsons caper across a wall, while Garfield smiles lazily from another.
