DEAR CHUCK, DAY 4: FAVORITE SONG-SCENE PAIRING
January 10, 2012
(Intro post and guidelines!)
Dear Chuck,
This was among my favorite topics for the day that I had to think of. If you saw my day 2 post, you’d already know how much I adore the show’s music. Despite the great, great songs in season one, it was season two that really took the cake for best soundtrack.
This scene is one of my absolute favorites— for a number of reasons. Of course, there’s the acting. How Zac shows how painful it is for Chuck to “accept” Sarah’s non-normalcy and how Yvonne tries to lightly deliver “You know, someday, when the Intersect is out of your head and you have the life you always wanted, you’ll forget all about me,” but then hopefully searches for some resistance in Chuck. Then there’s the dialogue. Chuck’s a normal guy who wants a normal life and Sarah Walker, as amazing as she is, will never be normal. (My heart is going to give any second now.)
And then there’s Skinny Love by Bon Iver playing agonizingly, appropriately in the background. How much it added to the raw emotion of the scene was what really sent me over the edge.
Since then, it’s become one of my favorite songs and, if you looked hard enough, you could probably find a recording of my friend playing it on guitar.
