Museum Art of the Day: MOCA’s “Art in the Streets” — the first major US museum exhibition dedicated to street art — opens to the public this Sunday, and will remain open through August 8.
Among the familiar pieces stretching all the way back to the dawn of graffiti-based vandalism are new and original pieces from the likes of Os Gemeos and Banksy (above).
My Modern Met took some photos during yesterday’s press opening which you can see here.

THE SMITHS // COVERED
Here, you will find a collection of new and old covers spanning the last couple of decades. I was compelled to put this together as a challenge mostly because I have found it so difficult over the years to find covers of Smiths songs that held up to a mediocre at best standard. That being said, I’ve pieced together a 20 track compilation. It could have been slightly more, but I did my best to limit myself to zero duplicate songs (I caved on “Last Night I Dreamt…” and used two, sue me - the original is my favorite song of all time). Are there some covers that I missed - sure. Most of those were instances of choosing who I felt covered a particular track the best.
So without further ado, here are classic songs by The Smiths as re-interpreted by artists over the years.

You Took My Name.
Creative outfit Dorothy are a collective of like-minded people working on unlike-minded ideas. Currently working on a series of paintings that strip famous logos back to their basic graphic forms they have created these pieces that are artworks in their own right.
The recent interest in this project has taken them by storm. Receiving many requests from people who want to know if they can buy the artworks. They are still in the midst of painting the range so as soon as they have more news we’ll post it on this site.
Recognise any?
