We heard oil’s kinda slippery, but these streaks are no mistake.
Alexandra Pacula makes paintings that look a lot like our camera’s long exposures.

And So We Wait by Marje, or, the best album of 2010 you didn’t know about (and it’s not even your fault)
This is one hidden gem in a haystack of hidden gems. My considerable Google-fu and Facebook stalking skills have revealed close to nothing about the art or the artist:
1) Marjorie Teo is an FSV graduate now based in London;
2) She probably plays the piano.And that’s that. I don’t remember how I first came across the album, but it’s a beautiful collection of short, very accessible piano pieces, and wonderfully arranged with strings and some ambient stylings. You know, the perfect minimalist soundtrack for a black and white short film. But also so much more. It’s what I imagine Vessels would sound like without the drums and the noise. It’s what — pardon me — Amberhaze might sound like if he was a girl in film school with a bit more classical training. That’s not really saying anything.
Pity about the album art though, if you can call it that.
And So We Wait is streaming for free and worth every penny of the ₤5.50 download here.
ck/ck: Polaroid Doesn't Get Its Appeal
ckck:
Last week Polaroid along with their new “creative director” Lady Gaga introduced some new products and it couldn’t have been more disappointing. They didn’t even introduce any really new product (ignoring those ridiculous glasses that only Kanye West and Lady Gaga herself would wear). They…

The Wilderness of Manitoba - “Orono Park”
Last night, I had the pleasure of seeing The Wilderness of Manitoba in NYC. Specializing in ethereal indie folk, these Canadians create, in my mind, perfect winter music. Crisp and melodic, with a touch of melancholy. For those of you not living in the northern hemisphere, I suggest you check out this track in a few months. Or not. This is a really great song and it’s off their album When You Left The Fire.
The first two minutes of the song start off with guitar, banjo and perfectly harmonized howls. You can tell that this song is going somewhere by the gradual intensity that builds. It’s not everyday you can simply describe a song as ‘beautiful’ but lucky for us, today happens to be one of those days.
